LA Lights – Time to Turn Them On Again?

  • We caught up with Sportie LA Co-Owner Isack Fadlon at WSA, and – trailing him breathlessly as he made the rounds at the Venetian suites – managed to ask him a few questions about the relaunch of LA Gear…one of our favorite styles, the LA Lights:

    LAGearNews: ACI and Sportie LA are bringing back some great LA Gear classics, are there any plans to revive LA Lights?

    Isack Fadlon: Yes, we are definitely bringing back the Lights. Many people have great memories wearing the Lights when they were kids. For many, the lights were synonymous with LA Gear.

    LAGN: Who gets more excited about the Lights, kids or adults?

    images.jpgIF: In the past I believe it was the kids. But now, as we re-introduce the lights, I think we’ll see a lot of “big kids” getting very excited about the shoes they used to rock when they were young.

    LAGN: Everyone has their favorite styles, but when we talk to people about LA Gear, it seems the Lights made an indelible impression on the entire culture. Was LA Gear really the first to put lights on shoes?

    IF: Yes, indeed.

    LAGN: Given the advances in shoe technology since the Lights were originally launched, do

    IF: Yes, we are going to, of course, re-introduce the original look of the lights, but we also have some surprises.

    LAGN: Do you have any LA Lights in your personal collection?

    IF: Of course, I do. How could I not?

    Hi Guys, I`m from Germany and im looking for some shoes with the “light” effect. Ive some of these when I was a little children and I loved them so much. Now I get to your site on the internet and I see that you have a new collection of your L.A. lights. I loved the two pictures on your news site but there is no way to buy them. Now my question is where I can buy it and how much did they cost. I hope you give me an answer. I love these shoes and sorry for my bad English.

    a big hit in todays fashion will be bringing back the “Lights”. nobody gots them u have the power to bring them back and have kanye west ,cool kids ect …advertise them. they will be a blast i still on my old la lights from when the used to be sold in payless…keep up the good work

    I was thrilled to see LA Gear back and the re-release of LA Lights. I always wanted a pair the first time and didn’t know they were ever offered in adult sizes, I thought they only came in kids’ sizes. I don’t want to miss the re-lease this time around. As asked above, any idea on a date or style offerings? Are the lights only going to be in the soles or are some styles going to have lights in the sides like some of the kids’ styles have now. Lights in the upper part would be cool, eh?

    heyyyyy i’ve been out today to every shoe shop near my house asking people where I can find hi-tops with the lights. no one seems to have a clue…you are my only hope. i need these so everyone thinks i’m extra cool lol please e-mail me and let me know if its possible to buy them anywhere in Melbourne, Australia…or if i can get them online and shipped to Melbourne!

    The new Lights aren’t out yet, and as you say it’s RIDICULOUSLY hard to find the old ones anywhere… but stay tuned and when the new Lights are fired off you’ll be the first to know!

    give a free pair to all NBA players. if any one of them wears them during a game you wont need any commercials or have to sponsor anyone. the announcers will go crazy seeing the lights go on not to mention LA gear stands out against modern day basketball shoes. there will be a snowball effect, trust me. at the very least its a small cost with a big payoff. for more great marketing ideas just let me know. oh and when is the next line due out, you should have released the lights first, no one really cares about the other shoes other than die hard sneaker heads.

    Yo!! I would like to second, third and fourth that motion; BRING BACK THE LIGHTS!!! How many times have you been walking somewhere(dark clubs. streets, coming home late) and thought to your self, “if only I could get some light with each step…”!?!? Please bring back the hightop lights!

    I understand that the shoes with lights are not out yet but do you have a idea/plan for when they would be coming out.
    My best friend is turning 50 in June this year and the only thing she wants for her b-day are these darn shoes. I can’t find them anywhere in her size (8).

    Good news people! I saw the new Lights on Tuesday for the first time… It was just a prototype, but I got the sneak peek and I think fans will NOT be disappointed (guys AND girls)…We’re hoping they will be out for yallz in early fall…

    Hello from CA,
    I have a pair of la lights circa 1996 that still light up I think they have Mercury in them. Does any one have a web adress on info regarding the oldest la lights type shoe that is still functioning?

    OMG! I’ve been on the hunt for these shoes for the past 2 years and it was impossible to find them. I’m so glad and super excited that they’re coming back out. I want all the colors!!
